For many parents, gaming feels like a battle they are constantly trying to win. They worry about screen time, online safety, and whether their children are spending too much time in virtual worlds.

Aiyana Glover, founder of The Laptop Life Coach, sees another possibility.

Instead of fighting against the spaces children already enjoy, Aiyana uses those spaces to reach them. Through gaming-based coaching, interactive workshops, and one-on-one mentoring, she helps children and young women build confidence, strengthen their communication skills, develop leadership abilities, and feel more comfortable using their voices.

“They’re already there anyway,” Aiyana explained during her MOB POD conversation. “We can try to fight the wave, or we can figure out ways to make it safe.”

That practical yet innovative perspective is at the heart of The Laptop Life Coach.

Becoming the Big Sister She Wished She Had

Aiyana’s work is deeply connected to her own life.

Raised in Maryland, she was the oldest sibling and the first person in her family to attend college and graduate in four years. Although she had a supportive family, there were experiences they could not prepare her for because they had not experienced them themselves.

Aiyana had to learn many of those lessons as she went.

“I always tell my clients and my siblings to be who you wish you had,” she shared. “I became the big sister that I always wanted.”

Today, she brings that same big-sister energy to the young people she serves.

Aiyana did not build The Laptop Life Coach because of a psychology degree or a traditional background in counseling. She earned her degree in marketing, recognized a need, and decided to use her experiences and natural ability to connect with young people to help fill it.

Meeting Children Where They Already Are

The Laptop Life Coach serves two distinct age groups.

For children ages 6–13, Aiyana offers gaming clubs, courses, workbooks, and virtual camps designed to develop confidence, social skills, public-speaking abilities, and leadership.

Games such as Roblox and Minecraft help her create an environment where children feel comfortable enough to open up, participate, and build relationships.

Aiyana noticed this approach working within her own family. Some of her younger siblings and cousins, particularly those affected socially by the COVID era, could be quiet or reluctant to communicate. Once she began playing games with them, their personalities came alive.

They began talking, laughing, collaborating, and inviting her to join their teams.

Gaming became a bridge to trust.

Aiyana does not claim to be the best gamer in the room. In fact, her students regularly remind her that she is not. But that is part of what makes the experience work.

She allows the children to teach her. They show her how to find items, build structures, layer outfits, and navigate different parts of the games. Sometimes she even pretends not to know something simply to give a child the opportunity to explain it.

In those moments, the student becomes the expert. That experience reinforces the very confidence Aiyana is there to help them build.

Creating Safer Online Spaces

The Laptop Life Coach is not simply about giving children more time to play video games. Aiyana creates monitored and supervised environments where children can enjoy the games they love while learning and connecting with others.

That additional layer of safety can be especially valuable for parents and grandparents who may not fully understand gaming platforms or the potential dangers children can encounter online.

Inside Aiyana’s clubs, students can meet other children, form friendships, and continue playing together in safer private environments.

For parents, it provides peace of mind. For children, it creates community.

Aiyana is also bringing something especially meaningful to the gaming and education space as a young Black woman who shows up fully and authentically.

“I know I’m Black, and I’m happy about it,” she said. “I don’t code-switch with the students.”

Her classes serve children from various racial and cultural backgrounds, but her presence carries particular importance for Black parents seeking positive representation for their children. Aiyana gives young people an opportunity to learn from a Black woman who is confident in her identity and comfortable bringing her full self into the room.

Guiding Young Women Through Life’s Milestones

For young women ages 16–23, Aiyana’s coaching takes on a different form.

Through Milestone Mentor Coaching, she provides the kind of practical guidance that young women may not feel comfortable requesting from parents or friends.

She helps them navigate academic expectations, make better use of opportunities such as office hours, resist peer pressure, establish boundaries, and make thoughtful personal decisions.

Her message is clear: “No is a full sentence.”

Aiyana positions herself as a trusted middle person who can offer sound guidance from a relatable perspective. She understands that young women may hesitate to speak openly with their parents because they fear judgment, punishment, or disappointment. At the same time, their peers may not always give them the healthiest advice.

Aiyana gives them another option: someone close enough to understand their perspective but experienced enough to help redirect them toward better choices.

Once again, she becomes the big sister she once wished she had.

Building a Business That Creates a Ripple Effect

Like many solopreneurs, Aiyana is still learning how to balance her mission with the realities of building a sustainable business.

One challenge is helping parents, schools, and organizations understand that simply trying to eliminate gaming may not be realistic.

The world is changing. Technology continues to evolve, and young people are growing up within it. Aiyana believes adults can either learn to use these platforms constructively or risk being left behind.

She is also expanding her business through interactive workshops, partnerships, written resources, and programs that allow her to serve more families without limiting her impact to one-on-one coaching.

The long hours are worth it when she sees the transformation in a child.

Aiyana shared the story of a young girl who initially would not turn on her camera or participate in class. After joining Aiyana’s summer camp and continuing into her weekly clubs, that same child became so engaged and talkative that Aiyana occasionally had to remind her to give the other students a turn.

The child had not simply stepped out of her shell. As Aiyana put it, it was as if the shell no longer existed.

Aiyana calls that transformation the ripple effect.

When one child gains confidence, the impact does not stop with that child. It affects friendships, families, classrooms, future opportunities, and potentially generations to come.

What Being a MOB BOSS Means to Aiyana

When asked what being a MOB BOSS means to her, Aiyana offered a message every entrepreneur needs to hear: Take the hit. Take the chance. Take the action.

Entrepreneurs can spend so much time analyzing, planning, and waiting for perfection that they never allow themselves to begin.

Aiyana has learned to start with what she has, introduce the idea, listen to the people she serves, and build from there. Rather than spending months creating a complete program based on assumptions, she tests the first step and develops the remaining experience around the actual needs of her students.

“You’ll learn from the action more than you would by studying and having analysis paralysis.”

For Aiyana, being a MOB BOSS means refusing to let perfection delay progress.

It means taking the shot.

Connect With The Laptop Life Coach

Aiyana is looking to connect with homeschool groups, private schools, colleges, parent organizations, women’s groups, enrichment programs, and organizations serving children, teens, and young adults.

She is especially interested in partnerships involving STEM, technology, youth development, interactive workshops, in-school field trips, and programs that help parents better communicate with today’s children.

Aiyana Glover is not asking children to abandon the world they understand. She is entering that world, making it safer, and using it to help them become more confident leaders, communicators, and decision-makers.

That is innovation.

That is impact.

That is a MOB BOSS.
